Timeline of Archimedes
Archimedes was born 287 BC in Syracuse, Sicily. He was one of the greatest scientist, mathematician, and an inventor who highly contributed to the world from his findings. For instance, Archimedes' Principle and Archimedes' Screw is very famous.
In his lifetime, Archimedes invented many machines and tools that were used by the Romans and the Greece. Today, many things that he invented are still used. For example, Archimedes' screw is used in irrigation and coal industry.
Archimedes died 212 BC when the Second Punic War was going on in Syracuse. Archimedes had been killed by the Roman soldier though he had specific orders from his general not to. Archimedes lived for 75 years.
Archimedes' tomb consisted of a sphere inside a cylinder. The sphere had the same length and diameter as the cylinder. His tomb represented one of his most favorite mathematical proofs that the volume and surface area of the sphere was two thirds of the cylinder.
Not much is known about Archimedes' life, such as whether if he had a wife or children. However, it is known that Archimedes studied in Alexandria in Egypt, along with his other friends.
