Writings
Many work written by Archimedes were written in Doric Greek, the language of ancient Syracuse. The written work of Archimedes has not survived as well as those of other scientists. During his lifetime, Archimedes made his work known through the translation of mathematics. Archimedes' surviving work became translated into Arabic, and later into Latin. Galileo Galilei invented a balance machine for weighing metals in air and water after being inspired by the work of Archimedes.
